Preventing and Managing Aerial Burns and Bruises

Aerial arts are a thrilling and rewarding way to build strength, flexibility, and confidence. However, like any physical activity, they come with the possibility of minor injuries like burns and bruises. At Aerials USA, we want you to enjoy your aerial journey safely and comfortably. Here’s how to prevent and manage those common aerial battle wounds:

Preventing Aerial Burns:

  • Proper Clothing: Wear form-fitting clothing that covers your skin, especially your arms, legs, and midriff. Leggings, long-sleeved shirts, and fitted tops are ideal. Avoid loose clothing or jewelry that could get caught in the apparatus.
  • Start Slowly: Gradually increase the intensity and duration of your practice sessions to allow your skin to adapt to the friction from the fabrics.
  • Use Grips: Consider using fabric grips or gloves to reduce friction and protect your hands.
  • Conditioning: Strengthening your muscles can help prevent excessive rubbing and friction on the fabrics.

Managing Aerial Burns:

  • Cool Compress: Apply a cool compress to the affected area to reduce inflammation and soothe the skin.
  • Aloe Vera: Aloe vera gel can help soothe and heal burns.
  • Keep it Clean: Gently clean the area with mild soap and water to prevent infection.
  • Avoid Irritants: Avoid applying lotions or creams with fragrances or harsh chemicals to the affected area.
  • Rest: Allow your skin to heal by taking breaks from aerial practice or modifying your routine to avoid putting pressure on the burn.

Preventing Aerial Bruises:

  • Gradual Exposure: Gradually increase your training time and intensity to allow your body to adapt to the pressure and impact.
  • Proper Technique: Focus on proper technique to minimize unnecessary pressure on your skin.
  • Conditioning: Strengthening your muscles can help protect your body from bruising.

Managing Aerial Bruises:

  • Ice: Apply ice packs to the bruised area to reduce swelling and pain.
  • Compression: Gently wrap the bruised area with a bandage to provide support and reduce swelling.
  • Elevation: Elevate the bruised area to promote blood circulation and reduce swelling.
  • Arnica: Arnica cream or gel can help reduce bruising and inflammation.

Remember:

  • Listen to Your Body: If you experience significant pain or discomfort, stop your practice and consult with a healthcare professional.
  • Proper Warm-up: Always warm up before your aerial practice to prepare your muscles and reduce the risk of injury.
